Everyone, at some point in their life, has dreamed of being somebody special, doing something incredible. Who hasn’t fantasized about being the one who kicks the game-winning field goal or dreamed of being chosen the homecoming queen? And how many times have we imagined ourselves rich, successful, popular, or in the perfect relationship?

We dream big dreams and have huge aspirations, don’t we? Unfortunately, our dreams remain just that – great moments played out in our imagination. And our aspirations easily collect dust in our mental attic. Pathetic when you think about it but something we are all so guilty of. This is a sad turn of events in our life. Instead of experiencing exciting adventures and self-actualization, we get caught up in the humdrum of living from day-to-day just barely existing.

Making a meager living barely tolerating our lives.

Settling

For

Ordinary

But you know what? Life could be extraordinary if only we would choose to aim higher.

The most common problem in setting goals is the word ‘impossible’ – and the idea that we don’t have what it takes. People get hung up thinking ‘I can’t do this. It’s too hard. It’s too complicated. Impossible. No one can do this.’

Even if you yourself don’t think ‘impossible’ (as Audrey Hepburn said, “The word itself says… I’m Possible!”), then there are plenty of people in your life who are constantly telling you it can’t be done – planting that very word in your subconscious mind.

Do NOT believe it.

If everyone thought that, there would be no inventions, no breakthroughs, no advancement whatsoever. Yet the world is exploding with new technology and innovations that were inconceivable just 10 years ago. Opportunity is absolutely everywhere.

Even if you dream totally outrageous and unrealistic dreams the problem of not seeing them realized is you did not TAKE ACTION!

That or the technology of what you envision has not been invented yet (so, go invent it!).

Anything is possible in life. If any other human has accomplished what you have in mind, it is well within the realm of possibility for you. And even if you dream super big, and no one has ever done anything close to what you imagine, YOU may be the very pioneer to do it.

Why not you? It will be someone.

Yes, there will be obstacles: financial, time obligations, naysayers, failures (or ‘course corrections’). Business partnerships may dissolve, life will create distractions, and a thousand obstacles you can’t even imagine will come up.

So what?
They are just bumps to get through or around.

Where there is a will, there is a way. Ever hear that? And where there is passion for your goal, there is success at the end of the road. The plain truth is you don’t stop until you get there and you deal with each obstacle one at a time.

If you stop yourself with self-doubt and limiting assumptions, you will never be able to get there.

If you take no regular action towards your goal, you will find yourself daydreaming and wishing forever… but with nothing to show for it.

You do not manifest goals and dreams with your mind – it merely starts there. You think it through, make a detailed plan and then act on each step.

PLAN your work, then WORK your plan!

Try this exercise. You DO write down your goals, right?

Take a piece of paper and write down some goals in your life.

Under one header, list down things ‘you know you can do’.

Under another header, write the things ‘you might be able to do.’

And under one more, list the things that are ‘impossible (okay, ‘difficult’) for you to do.’

Now, look at all the headers. Strive every day to accomplish the goals that are under things ‘you know you can do’. Check them off as you accomplish them. As you check off all of your goals under that heading, try accomplishing the goals under the other header-the one that reads ‘you might be able to do.’ Now, move the goals that are under things that are ‘impossible for you to do’ to the list of things ‘you might be able to do.’ As you go through this process, you will find that the goals you thought were ‘impossible’ become easier to accomplish. And the’ impossible’ becomes possible after all.

You see, we only limit ourselves.

If you told someone a hundred years ago that it was possible for mankind to go to the moon, wipe out smallpox, 3D print things, or map the human genome, they wouldn’t even be able to understand what you were talking about. If you told them that the whole world would be able to communicate in real time and connect to the entire world’s information instantly through an ‘invisible world-wide-web’, they would have thought you were a witch. But, through sheer desire, perseverance, and making sure they found a solution for each obstacle…these impossible things are now an everyday reality.

So dream on! Don’t get caught up with your perceived limitations. Think big and get started.

‘Impossible’ is just a word. And it certainly does not apply to you.
